our pick

Materada — your home beach

home beach · ~650–800 m / 5–10 min walk

Your nearest swim: a long pebble-and-rock strip with pine shade, a gentle promenade and that clear Adriatic water a 5–10 minute walk from the door.

Free · sunbed+umbrella ~€10–20/day👪 Families💑 Couples👧 Kids✨ Everyone

💡 Walk to the northern (Špadići) end early for a flat pebble spot in pine shade; bring water shoes for the rocks.

Špadići Beach

next to Materada · ~10–15 min walk south

The family stretch right beside Materada — well-equipped, promenade-lined and with a wooden-ship playground the little ones love.

Free · sunbeds ~€10–20/day👪 Families👧 Kids

💡 Base toddlers at the Špadići playground end rather than the rockier northern Materada end.

Červar-Porat Beach

fishing village · ~3–4 km N / 5–8 min drive

A quieter ~400 m natural-pebble beach in a calm fishing-village bay just north — dense pine shade, gentle entry and boats coming in at dusk.

Free · konoba drinks €3–6💑 Couples👪 Families

💡 The closest get-away-from-the-resorts swim — late-afternoon dip, then grilled fish at a village konoba.

Brulo Beach

south of old town · ~5–6 km / 10–12 min drive

A lively family beach on the south side with a floating water park, mini-golf and a dive centre — plenty to keep older kids busy for hours.

Free · floating water park ~€8–12👪 Families👧 Kids🚴 Sport

💡 It's on the far side of Poreč — make it a planned day out, not a quick dip.

Zelena Laguna

€€

south · ~6–7 km / 12–15 min drive

The big, well-run Blue Flag resort bay south of town — pebble and concrete beaches, a floating amusement park and a 1 km promenade.

Free · sunbeds ~€12–20/day👪 Families👧 Kids🚴 Sport

💡 Park once and use the tourist train/promenade to hop between Zelena, Bijela Uvala and Plava Laguna.

Bijela Uvala

south · ~6–7 km / 13–15 min drive

A 2 km "white bay" of pebble, stone and concrete coves beside the campsite — deep pine shade and small calm spots away from the crowds.

Free · sunbed+umbrella ~€10–18/day👪 Families💑 Couples

💡 Walk past the main camp to the southern coves — they hold pine shade longest and stay calmer.

Borik Beach

south · ~2–2.5 km / 5 min drive

A lively Valamar-managed pebble beach with old-town views across the water, a beach bar and sports courts — best in the late-afternoon light.

Free · sunbed+umbrella ~€12–20/day👪 Families💑 Couples🎉 Night out

💡 Come late afternoon — the light on Poreč's old-town skyline across the water is the best photo of the area.

Eat & drink

Where to eat

From fish you grill at home to the konobas we love.

our pick

Ribarnica Ancora

Gašpara Kalčića 10 · ~3 km / 6 min · free delivery

Market price👪 Families💑 Couples✨ Everyone

💡 Phone ahead to reserve fish and order the clean-and-grill so it's ready or delivered hot — ask for sardines (srdele) or a whole orada/brancin off the boat.

Konoba Aba

€€

Matka Vlačića 2, old town · ~3 km · book ahead

A buzzy family tavern just off the promenade — a local benchmark for truffle risotto, fresh Adriatic fish and grilled squid in a warm, rustic setting.

€20–40 pp depending on fish💑 Couples👪 Families✨ Everyone

💡 Order the signature truffle risotto "Aba" and ask what whole fish came in that morning. Tiny terrace — reserve or arrive early.

Pizzeria Nono

Zagrebačka 4, centre · ~3 km · closed Mondays

Poreč's go-to pizzeria — around 30 varieties of generously oversized, wood-fired pizza at honest prices. One large easily feeds two.

€8–14 / pizza👪 Families👧 Kids✨ Everyone

💡 Order one pizza between two and add a salad — portions run big. Parking is tight; park on the edge of the old town and walk.

Konoba Ćakula

€€

Vladimira Nazora 7, old town · ~3 km · dinner only

A stylish modern-Istrian konoba tucked in a quiet old-town alley near the basilica ("ćakula" means "a chat") — homemade gnocchi with truffles, locally-caught branzino and finely judged service.

€18–30 / main💑 Couples✨ Everyone

💡 Dinner only (opens ~17:00) and the indoor room is small — reserve, and ask for an outdoor table on the stone walkway.

Restaurant Sv. Nikola

€€€

Obala Maršala Tita 23, seafront · ~3 km

Poreč's elegant waterfront grande dame — refined Istrian-Mediterranean fish and a deep wine list, on a terrace looking across to St Nicholas island. The special-occasion table.

À la carte mains ~€25–40 · ~€70–100+ pp💑 Couples✨ Everyone

💡 Reserve a terrace table at sunset facing the island. For the experience without the splurge, ask about the fixed daily menu instead of à la carte.

Konoba Ulixes

€€€

Decumanus 2, old town · ~3 km

An atmospheric stone konoba off Decumanus with three cosy rooms and a vine-shaded garden — fresh Adriatic fish and live lobster, plus a strong Istrian wine list.

€20–35 / main · lobster by weight💑 Couples✨ Everyone

💡 Sit in the wine garden and confirm the per-kilo price before they cook a whole fish or live lobster.

Restaurant Spinnaker

The most decorated kitchen actually inside Poreč — Michelin-Guide-listed contemporary Adriatic tasting menus on an elegant seafront terrace by the marina.

Mains ~€30–45 · tasting menus ~€90–130 pp💑 Couples✨ Everyone

💡 Book the tasting menu several days ahead and request a terrace table at sunset; reservations for non-hotel-guests are essential in summer.

Gelato on the riva (Aroma & Fontana)

Decumanus, old town · ~3 km

The nightly ritual — a scoop of dense, natural homemade gelato strolling the old-town seafront. Aroma (36 flavours, almost all gluten-free) and Gelateria Fontana on Decumanus are the benchmarks.

~€2–3.50 / scoop👪 Families💑 Couples✨ Everyone

💡 Go before dinner or after 21:00 to skip the 18:00–20:00 queue on the busy pedestrian street.

Restoran-Pizzeria Špadići

€€

Activities & sport

On the water, on a bike, or tasting your way through Istria.

our pick

Bike Center Poreč (Parenzana Trail)

€€

Valamar Parentino, seafront · ~3 km / 8–10 min

Valamar's rental-and-tour hub at "kilometre zero" of the Parenzana — the 120+ km former narrow-gauge railway from Trieste to Poreč through vineyards, tunnels and hilltop towns. The biggest, newest fleet in the area.

MTB €28/day · e-MTB €50–52/day · kids' bikes €19–33/day🚴 Sport👪 Families💑 Couples

💡 Don't ride the Parenzana there and back — go one-way to Motovun or Grožnjan and arrange a bike-and-rider transfer back. Book e-MTBs a day or two ahead in Jul/Aug.

Boat trip to Sv. Nikola & Lim Bay

€€

boats depart Poreč harbour · ~3 km

A half-day wooden-boat cruise into the dramatic Lim fjord — an 11 km emerald sea-channel famous for oysters and mussels — usually paired with Vrsar, or a quick taxi-boat hop to St Nicholas island.

Scenic cruise ~€15–20 pp · fish-picnic day ~€40–55 pp👪 Families💑 Couples✨ Everyone

💡 Pick a boat that goes into the fjord (some 'panorama' trips only pass the mouth); a small wooden boat beats a party catamaran for young kids.

SUP, kayak & tennis — Sport Center Plava

€€

Laguna Galijot · ~4–5 km · ~09:00–19:00 May–Oct

A one-stop active centre in Galijot bay: tennis and table-tennis courts plus SUP, kayak, pedal-boat, aqua-tube and waterski rental by the hour.

Diving Poreč (Blue Lagoon)

€€

Plava Laguna, near Hotel Galijot · ~4–5 km

Wreck excursion ~€75 · try-dive ~€69–89 · Open Water ~€480🚴 Sport💑 Couples👪 Families

💡 First-timers: ask for the shallow shore-based discover-scuba, not a boat dive — calmer and cheaper. The Baron Gautsch wreck is certified-only.

Truffle hunting with Karlić Tartufi

€€€

Paladini, near Motovun · ~40–45 km / 45–55 min NE

Tramp the oak forests near Buzet behind trained truffle dogs with Istria's oldest truffle-hunting family, then a generous truffle tasting. The definitive inland experience.

Hunt + tasting ~€120–130 pp · simpler packages cheaper💑 Couples👪 Families✨ Everyone

💡 Book ahead — it's a small family operation, not walk-up. Autumn (white-truffle season) is the most exciting; wear closed shoes for the muddy forest.

Wine & olive-oil tasting (Coronica / Agrolaguna)

€€

Coronica: Koreniki, ~25–30 min N (by appointment)

Taste Istria's signature Malvazija and Teran at an acclaimed boutique winery like Coronica, or pick up award-winning EVOO and Festigia wines at Poreč's own Agrolaguna shop on the way into town.

Guided tasting ~€20–40 pp · EVOO ~€10–25/bottle💑 Couples✨ Everyone

💡 Reserve ahead — no walk-ins at Coronica — and bring a designated driver; flights are generous. Agrolaguna (Mate Vlašića 34) is the no-booking shortcut close to home.

Euphrasian Basilica & bell-tower climb (UNESCO)

Eufrazijeva 22, old town · ~3 km / 8 min

Adult €10 · students €5 · preschoolers free💑 Couples👪 Families

Cocktails ~€8–12 · coffee/soft drinks ~€2–4💑 Couples👪 Families✨ Everyone

💡 The rooftop has only a handful of tables — arrive 30–45 min before golden hour to claim a spot up top.

Bacchus Wine & Bites

€€

Eufrazijeva, old town · ~3 km

A cosy candle-lit old-town wine bar near the basilica pouring local Malvazija, Muškat and Refošk by the glass, with prosciutto-and-cheese platters on a quiet courtyard terrace.

Wine by glass ~€3–6 · sharing platters ~€12–20💑 Couples✨ Everyone

💡 Ask for a Malvazija-vs-Teran comparison by the glass — a no-commitment way to taste Istrian wine without driving to a winery.

Villa Club Poreč

€€

Rade Končara 4a, by the marina · ~3 km · May–Oct

A two-floor beach club by the marina that flips from lounge by day to DJ party by night, with a terrace opening straight onto the sea.

Day trips

Worth the drive for a day out.

our pick

Rovinj

south · ~35–38 km / 40 min (or seasonal tourist boat)

Istria's most photogenic town — a candy-coloured fishing port stacked under St Euphemia's Venetian bell tower, with cobbled lanes that beg to be wandered.

Town free · bell-tower climb ~€5 · parking ~€2–4/hr💑 Couples👪 Families✨ Everyone

💡 Arrive before 10am or after 5pm — midday cruise crowds clog the lanes. Park at edge lots (e.g. Valdibora) and walk in.

Pula & the Roman Arena

south · ~55–60 km / 50–60 min

One of the world's best-preserved Roman amphitheatres, still hosting concerts, in a buzzing port city full of antiquity.

Arena adult €10 · child/student €5 · under-5 free👪 Families💑 Couples✨ Everyone
